Grinnell, March 30-Grinnell lost a remarkable woman this morning by the death of Mrs. Lucy White Verbeck, who would have been 100 years of age had she survived two months longer. Mrs. Verbeck would have celebrated her centenary of life May 22.

Mrs. Verbeck was born in Standstead, Canada, three miles from the Vermont line. She was married to Luther M. Verbeck, Feb. 7, 1833, and came to Iowa and Grinnell on December, 1883. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Verbeck, and the, other survived all but one, the exception being C. H. Verbeck, of this city, who is 76 years of age. As direct descendants of Mrs. Verbeck are sixteen grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, some of whom have children.

Mrs. Verbeck was a woman of strong intellect, democratic in political tendencies, strongly union in the civil war, Universalist in religion but not a member of any church. Mr. Verbeck died here in 1885.

The funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the residence, with interment in Hazelwood Cemetery, where three daughters are buried.
