Gordon M. Stepp, 73, of Grinnell died on December 24, 2018, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
A Celebration of Life gathering with the Stepp family present, will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 28th, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.
Memorial contributions maybe designated to the Gordon M. Stepp Memorial Fund.
Gordon was born on February 5, 1945, in Newton, the son of Floyd and Wanda Hill Stepp. He was raised in Kellogg and was a 1963 graduate of Newton High School.
On April 24, 1964, he was united in marriage with Beverly Eurom of Kellogg, at the Kellogg United Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Kellogg.
Gordon was employed at the Maytag Company in Newton for 30 years and retired in May of 2000. While at Maytag he was a member of the UAW #997 and served as a union steward while employed there. Following his retirement, the couple moved to Grinnell and he started Stepp Lawn Care; he also worked part-time in the mornings, at East End Auto in Grinnell.
Gordon loved snowmobiling and attending Sprint Car Racing in Knoxville with his family. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and a season football ticket holder for 20 years. He loved sports! During the spring of the year he enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting. He held a keen sense of humor and liked doing fun things.
Survivors include his wife, Bev of Grinnell; two children, Scott (Missy) Stepp of Altoona and Stacy (Scott) Cook of Grinnell; three grandchildren, Jacob (Jamie) Dunsbergen of Grinnell, Dylan Cook of Grinnell and Kelsey (Shane) Foster of Bondurant; two great-grandchildren, Maddox and Annistyn Foster of Bondurant; and one sister, Fontella (Wilbur) Terpstra of Lynnville. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard in infancy.
