FUNERAL SERVICES
HELD TODAY FOR
HERBERT JACKSON

E. Herbert Jackson of Grinnell died suddenly at his home Thursday afternoon.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. C.E. Kingsley, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Music at the services was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bohstedt.

Flower bearers were Mrs. Everett Tew and Mrs. Thomas Tone. Serving as pallbearers were Clair Strand, Laverne Raffety, Merton Johnson, Harold Brown, William Greenwald, and Donovan Evans.

Graveside services were conducted by the ceremonial unit of American Legion Post 53, Grinnell. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.

He was the son of Henry E. and Nettie Tilden Jackson and was born Sept. 5th, 1894, at Chatsworth, Ill., one of a family of four children. He received his education in the public schools near his home and later attended technical school in Chicago.

On June 10th, 1919, at the Christian church in Minier, Ill., he was united in marriage with Mable T. Day. They became parents of three children: Mrs. Floyd E. (Aubrey Jean) Nally of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Capt. Dale E. Jackson of the U.S. Air Force at Rapid City, S.D.; and Mrs. Gerald (Wanda) Read of Brooklyn.

In addition to his two daughters and one son, Mr. Jackson is survived by his widow at the family home and six grandchildren, Linda, Dale Jr., and Judy of Rapid City, S.D., Debbie, Rhonda and Brian Read of Brooklyn. Also surviving are two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Minnie E. Bess of Washington, Ill., Mrs. Mildred Carlson of Harcourt and Arthur T. Jackson of Paton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Jackson had served with the U.S. Nay in both World Wars I and II and had lived near Burlington and Paton before moving to Grinnell 31 years ago. He had farmed earlier but later was self-employed in the plumbing and heating business. From 1948 until 1959 he was employed at the Grinnell Post Office.

He was a member of the First Baptist church of Grinnell and the American Legion.
