Funeral services for former Gillette woman Donna Hazel (Robinson) Garland, 93, of Sugar Creek, Mo., will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Mount Washington Forever Funeral Home in Independence, Mo.

Burial will follow in Lee's Summit Cemetery.

A celebration of life in her honor will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

She died Monday, April 7, 2003, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Garland was born Dec. 7, 1909, in Grinnell, Iowa, to William C. and Katie May (Crase) Robinson. She lived in Iowa and Missouri and in Gillette from 1989-98.

She was a retired elementary school teacher who taught in Blue Springs, Independence and Piper school districts. Because of her love for childern, she helped run a daycare business after she retired from teaching.

She was a member of the Antique Airplane Association. She loved to knit, crochet and sew and later in life, she became an accomplished painter.

Mrs. Garland is survived by three sons, Curtis Garland of Independence, Larry Garland of Sugar Creek, Mo. and L. Dean Garland of Philadelphia, Pa.; one daughter, Lelia McLagan of Granvalley, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and one sister.

Mount Washington Forever Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
