ALFRED L. FRISBIE

Alfred L. Frisbie died Friday, February 24, following a brief illness. He was 95. Frisbie was born in Grinnell, Iowa, where his father, A.L. Frisbie, was editor of The Grinnell Herald-Register. He graduated from Grinnell College in 1943. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1942 and entered the service the following year, taking part in the battle for Okinawa and earning a Purple Heart.

Frisbie was a reporter and columnist for The Omaha World-Herald for 39 years. He was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for his reporting on the fatal 1972 floods in Rapid City, South Dakota. During his career Frisbie also served as World-Herald sports writer, youth activities director, copy editor, makeup editor and Saturday edition editor. A collection of his Omaha World-Herald columns, entitle "Hey Fatso!" was published by his family in 2000.

Marjorie, his wife of 64 years, died on February 25, 2012, almost five years to the day of his passing. Frisbie is survived by his children Victoria (Ted) Roche of Bellevue, NE, Mark (Karen) Frisbie of Omaha, NE and Stephen (Michelle) Frisbie of Grand Island, NE; grandchildren Angela (Mic) Boettner, Jennifer (Brian) Lesac, Carli (Tim) Stoller, Luke Frisbie, Samantha Frisbie, and Beverly (Carter) Roche; great-grandchildren, Miley and Josephine Lesac, Tara Whitfield, Reid, Kaden and Dayne Stoller, Paul Johnson, Marisa Temple, and Ethan Roche; and sister-in-law, Maxine Nurse.

A memorial service for Al Frisbie will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, at the Bel Air Chapel of Heafey Hoffmann Dworak Cutler, 12100 West Center Road in Omaha, NE.
