REYNOLDS PLUM
DIES IN MISHAP

A Grinnell farmer was killed Monday afternoon when a tractor being used in hay-baling tipped over, pinning him beneath it.

Reynolds E. Plum, 59, of Rte. 3, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The son of William and Edna Baustian Plum, he was born Aug. 13, 1913, at Grinnell and received his education in the rural schools of Sheridan Township.

On Feb. 20, 1938, he was married to Marie Oltrogge at the Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Malcom. Since his marriage, he had farmed on the same farm in Sheridan Township.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed, and served his church as a council member, in the brotherhood, and in the Eden League.

Mr. Plum is survived by his wife, Marie; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Darlene) Lamb of Ames and Mrs. Larry (Kathryn) Loftin of Grinnell; three grandchildren, Michelle Lamb, and Kraig and Kirk Loftin; his mother, Mrs. Edna Plum of Toledo; three sisters, Mrs. Lois Walters of Malcom, Mrs. Donna Kremenak of Toledo, and Mrs. Judy Burton of Arizona; and six brothers, Lester of Toledo, William of Ottumwa, Marion of Tama, James of Montour, Max of Tama, and Milo of Marshalltown. He was preceded in death by his father; four brothers, John, Kenny, Ray, and Walter; and a sister, Dorothy.

Funeral services for Mr. Plum were held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Leo Widdel, a former pastor of the church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and serving on the flower committee were Elizabeth Schultz, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ahrens, and Marie Beck. Pallbearers were Walter Beck, Paul Ahrens, Donald Ahrens, Lyle Phipps, James McIlrath, and Myron Heneke. Burial was in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, with the James-Schalinske Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
