15 August 1888 ---- 12 July 1973

Funeral services were held July 15 at Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon for Clair Fleener, 84, who died July 12 at Grinnell General Hospital following a lingering illness. Burial was in Stewart Cemetery northwest of New Sharon. The son of Ben and Alice Stanley Fleener, Mr. Fleener was born Aug. 15, 1888, in Poweshiek County near Searsboro.

In 1906, he was married to Ruby Boget. The couple farmed in the Searsboro area until 1910 when they moved to a farm near Riceville, Iowa. In 1913 they moved to a farm near Stewartville, Minn., where Mr. Fleener farmed and served as a rural mail carrier for four years. They moved back to Iowa in 1922. In 1944, he was married to Ruby Mincer and they lived on a farm south of New Sharon until 1958 when they moved to New Sharon where they had been living at the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby; six children -- Earl Fleener of Holland, Mrs. Dale (Gail) Wildman of Long Beach. Calif., Lyle Fleener of Searsboro, Mrs. James (Grace) Nettleton of Greene, Mrs. Melvin (Audrey) Dudolski of Dodgeville, Wis., and Mrs. Clarence (Louise) Taylor of Marshalltown; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ada Gunderson of Grinnell; two brothers -- Maurice of Searsboro and Lowell of Ottumwa; one step-daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Helen) Whitis of New Sharon, and four step-grandchildren. Mr. Fleener was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers, and one son, Craig.
