Carroll Pletcher was born May 19, 1896, at Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of William and Louise Griffith Pletcher. He attended school at Brooklyn, Iowa, and grew up in that area. Mr. Pletcher served in the United States Army during World War I. He was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad as a fireman in 1923, was promoted to engineer in 1945, and retired in 1962.

He was united in marriage to Tillie Knutson of Hawarden on July 5, 1946 at Canton, S. Dak. The couple made their home at Hawarden for three years before moving to Eagle Grove.

Mr. Pletcher became ill at his home suddenly Saturday evening and died shortly after his seizure. At the time of his death, he was 74 years, 11 months and 5 days of age. He is survived by his wife, Tillie.

Since his retirement, he had spent many hours fishing, something that he enjoyed very much. He had returned from fishing just a short time before his death.

Funeral services were held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27. Rev. Emmett Braselton of the United Church of Christ officiated, and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove. Military rites at the graveside were provided by the Clarence Schurtz Legion Post of Eagle Grove.
