OBITUARY OF
JULIA DAVENPORT

Julia C. Butrum was born in Cass county, near Springfield, Ill., July 16, 1859. She passed away at her home 1216 Second Avenue, Feb. 2, 9 p.m., aged 66 years, 6 months, 11 days, from a stroke of apoplexy.

She spent her childhood days two miles south of Lynnville, Iowa, on the home place. She was united in marriage January 2, 1879, to Edwin Franklyn Davenport. To this union were born eight children, three preceding their mother in death. Five children survive her, Fred Davenport, Mrs. Mary Pappas, Mrs. Loyal Gooch, all of Grinnell, Mrs. Guy Benton of Brooklyn and Mrs. Jack Stahl of Newton. Also seven grandchildren.

Her life companion, Edwin Davenport, preceded her in death Nov. 28, 1919. She is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Cilnira Bump of Jacket, Missouri, Mrs. Sarah Holmes of Lynnville, Iowa, Mrs. Amanda Burton of Galesburg, Illinois, and Mrs. Emma Carter of Miami, Florida. She was a faithful member of the Methodist church since 1882. She was a kind and loving mother, sister and neighbor, and to know her was to love her.

The out of town relatives present at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Shutts, Hallie, Roy and Carol Youngkin, Hoy and Harold Slawson, all of Sully, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Winegarden of Taintor, Iowa, Mrs. George Brock and daughter, Martha, and son Bailey of Webster City, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. James Butrum of Tama, Iowa. The pall bearers were George Sampson, Lew Ent, N.O. Pilgrim, D.C. Phillips, George Murray and T.S. Mason.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church at 2 p.m., Feb. 4th, conducted by Rev. George Blagg. Appropriate hymns were sung by Misses Pauline Manson and Mona Ennis with Miss Lucile Hays at the organ. Interment in Hazelwood cemetery.
