LARRY LEE INNIS

Larry Lee Innis, 79, of Grinnell died June 8, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at the Church of the Nazarene in Grinnell with the Rev. Harley Schull officiating. Pallbearers will be Jeff, Zach, Devin and Skylar Innis, Jameson Fisk, Larry and Kolton Kline, and Brent Smith. Honorary bearers will be Kayla and Brylee Fisk, Megan, Karsen, Amanda, Brinley and Mackenzie Innis, and Bethany, Courtney and Natalie Wilson. Burial will be in Pleasant Township Cemetery in Ewart.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Larry Innis Memorial Fund.

Larry was born October 28, 1936, in Grinnell, the son of Raymond H. and Genevieve (Reisinger) Innis. He was raised in Grinnell and was a 1955 graduate of Grinnell High School. He honorably served in the United States Army from 1959 until 1962.

On June 5, 1963, he was united in marriage with Laverna May Cathey, in Grinnell, Iowa. The couple made their home in Grinnell. He was employed with Miracle Recreation, Blom & Criswell Painting, and working with Cookie and Clark Brothers Painting. In 1978, he began working for Maytag in Newton and retied in 1998. Thereafter, he was self-employed working on various projects. He was later married to Yvonne Sheets on November 5, 1982, in Grinnell. They continued to live in Grinnell.

Larry enjoyed collecting and selling junk and loved his Ford pickups! He enjoyed fishing and mowing, and was an avid fan of the Golden State Warriors and NASCAR. Mark Martin was his favorite driver.

Survivors include his wife, Yvonne of Grinnell; four children, Richard Innis of Grinnell, Randy (Janis) Innis of Polk city, Lisa (Larry) Kline of Grinnell and Rod (Cheryl) Innis of Grinnell; one brother, Roger Innis of Grinnell; two sisters, Betty Miller of Texas and Judy Schlesselman of Minnesota; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Laverna; his daughter, Christina Innis in infancy; three brothers, Donald, David and Dick Innis and two sisters, Barbara Parker and Sharon Anderson.
