HOLD SERVICES
FOR JOHNSON

George C. Johnson, 78, of 1123 West St., in Grinnell, died Thursday morning, Oct. 18, at Grinnell General Hospital following an illness the past six weeks.

Services for George Johnson were held Saturday morning at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. James P. Russell, minister of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist was Edward Bohstedt.

Pallbearers were John Bennett, Harry Bitcon, Burrison Farmer, Virgil Groth, Darrell Lamb, Earl Lamb, Wayne Reams and William R. Welsh. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Born near Scotch Grove on April 26, 1901, he was the son of George C. and Anna Engelbarts Johnson. His mother died while he was young, and the family later moved to the Ewart Community near Grinnell. He attended school in Malcom.

On Dec. 20, 1927, he was married to Helen Alexander in Grinnell. To this marriage was born one son, Robert G. Johnson.

He was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church. He and his wife had made their home in Grinnell since their marriage. He owned and operated his building contracting business until his health began to fail.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; his son, Robert of Newton; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters and one brother, Anna Zimmerman, Hanna Zimmerman and John Johnson.
