RITES HELD FOR
ALEX JACK, 83

Alex Jack, 83, of 1517 West St., died Sunday afternoon, March 3, at Grinnell General Hospital, following an extended illness.

The son of William and Jane Greer Jack, he was born May 17, 1890, in Country Antrim, Ireland, where he received his education. He came to the United States in 1909 with two brothers, settling in the Gilman community.

He was married to Elizabeth McIlrath on Feb. 6, 1915, in Newburg. The couple farmed near Gilman for three years, then moved to a farm near Montezuma, where they lived until 1944 when they retired and moved to Grinnell.

Mr. Jack is survived by his wife Elizabeth; a son, Wilbur Jack of Montezuma; a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Doris) Edgington of Grinnell; seven grandchildren, LaVerne and Keith Jack, Karen Jack Johnson and Kathy Jack Little, all of Montezuma, Roger Edgington of Gilman, Linda Edgington Ketelsen of Ames and Ronald Edgington of Grinnell; 13 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, John of Rochester, Minn., and William of Belle Plaine. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, and one brother.

Funeral services for Mr. Jack were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home, with the Rev. Howard Anthony and the Rev. Charles Preston, both of Sheldon, officiating. Vocalist was Gordon Van Donselaar, and organist was Ellen Patten. Pallbearers were his grandsons, LaVerne Jack, Keith Jack, Roger Edgington, Ronald Edgingon, Vince Johnson, Steve Ketelsen and Jerry Little. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the coronary care unit at Grinnell General Hospital.
