RITES CONDUCTED

Jessamine "Jed" Johnson, 88, of 1509 Main St., Grinnell, died Sunday, Dec. 18, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raymond Lott, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner.

Pallbearers were Harold Hanson, Myron Heneke, Don Renaud, Jim Urfer, John Wemer and Jim White. Honorary bearers were Dr. Robert Baumann, Dr. Floyd Beaver, Charles Manly, Marion Onthank, Richard Sears and Charles Vogel.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials in Mrs. Johnson's name may be made to the Grinnell Rotary Club.

She was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Kittle Rossman and was born Dec. 6, 1900, at Cheyenne, Wyo. She attended Cheyenne public schools.

She was married to Fred W. Johnson July 15, 1922, at Cheyenne. The family lived in Holdridge and Kearney, Neb., before moving to Grinnell in 1935. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson owned and operated the Ben Franklin Store in Grinnell for many years.

She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, the Sunset Club, and Beulah Chapter No. 47 of Eastern Star.

Surviving are a daughter, Janet Schmidt of Grinnell; three granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son, Donald Lyle Johnson; three sisters, Jennie May Burner, Marion Willey and Harriet Johnson and an infant brother.
