HAROLD WALDO MCLENNAN

The son of Waldo Scott and Inez Share McLennan, Harold was born Nov. 23, 1913, near Hartwick. He attended the schools near the family farm home and Hartwick.

Harold was married to Frances Crane on January 19, 1931, at her parents' home and the couple lived in Waterloo while he worked at John Deere and the Rath Packing plant. He later lived in Tama where he owned his spray painting contract business. In 1944, they returned to the Hartwick community to farm until the death of his wife, Frances, in early 1973.

He was married to Carol Highum Gryp at St. Bridget's Catholic church in Victor on November 2, 1973, and made their home north of Victor.

Harold was a member of the Hartwick Congregational Church, the Farm Bureau, and the Iowa River Sams - Good Sam Camping group.

He is survived by his wife, carol; his children: Wayne Franklin McLennan of Jacksonville, Ill.; Roger Scott McLennan of Hunting Park, Calif.; and Joyce Klinkenberg of Shelburne, Vt.; his stepchildren: Paul Eugene Gryp of Rayville, N.J.; Kenneth Alan Gryp of Woodbridge, Va.; and Nancy Durham of Del Rip, Tex.; 13 grandchildren; and a sister: Jane Hultman of Chelsea.

Harold, 73, died Monday evening, Oct. 19, 1987, at Grinnell General Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Frances; a sister, Evelyn Nelson; and a brother in infancy: Lyle Morris McLennan.

Funeral services for Harold W. McLennan were held 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 1987, at the Hartwick Congregational church with Pastor Ron Kooyman, officiating. Organist was Joan McConnell. Pallbearers were James DeSmet, Gene Dietrich, Larry Gensley, Ralph Keller, Sean Michalek, David Roberts, John Van Otegham and Dan Weisskoph. In care of flowers were Bruce and Kay Ostrom and Everett and Alice Williamson. Interment was in the Hartwick cemetery. A family prayer service was held Thursday at the McAninch-Fremming Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made in his name and left at the McAnich-Fremming Funeral Home, Victor.
