ADA S. NELSON RITES SATURDAY

Ada S. Nelson, 94, died Monday afternoon at her home in Marengo.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Grinnell United Church of Christ-Congregational, with the Rev. Philip J. Ramstad officiating. Mrs. Nelson had willed her body to medical science.

Should friends desire, memorials in her name may be made to the United Church of Christ-Congregational, and may be left at the Smith Funeral Home or the church.

The daughter of George W. and Phoebe Jane Dunham Swezey, she was born Jan. 20, 1886, at Marengo. She attended the Marengo schools, graduating from Marengo High School in 1904.

She taught in rural Iowa County schools and for two years at Sheldon before coming to Grinnell in 1911. While in Grinnell, she taught in the fourth and fifth grades and in junior high. She attended Nebraska State Teachers College in Kearney.

On Aug. 19, 1925, she was married to Will J. Nelson in Chicago, Ill. The couple had one daughter.

Mrs. Nelson was a member of Beulah Chapter No. 47 of the Order of Eastern Star, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Grinnell United Church of Christ-Congregational. In 1941, she served as librarian at the senior high school until her retirement in 1961. She returned to Marengo in 1978.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Vernon (Mary Ann) Anderson of Englewood, Colo., and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1953 and 10 brothers and sisters.
