The Grinnell (IA) Herald
3-13-1885

--Uncle Sammy Nelson died Wednesday night. He had been afflicted for many years with poor health and was almost totally blind for some years before his death. He was at one time an employe of the HERALD office, furnishing the motive power for our large press. It was a familiar remark with him at that time "it appeared as if that crank turned easy but in some way it shut a man's wind off powerful." He was naturally industrious and faithful, and he stuck to work not requiring much use of the eyes long after many a better man would have given up on account of bodily affliction. His funeral will be held this afternoon under the direction of the G.A.R., of which organization he was a member.

NOTE: Burial in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
