SAWYER, 47

Linda Kay Sawyer, 47, of Brooklyn, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at Brookhaven Community Estates.

A funeral was Friday, July 26, at Harden Funeral Chapel, What Cheer, with the Rev. Phillip Ryan of Sigourney St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating. Interment followed at Garrett Cemetery near Delta. A memorial fund has been established.

Ms. Sawyer was born Sept. 17, 1954, in Sigourney, the daughter of Ronald and Kathleen (Claypool) Sawyer. She was raised in rural What Cheer and attended Tri-County High School, graduating in 1972. After high school she worked for Bankers Life Insurance Co. in Des Moines. In 1973, she moved to Grinnell, where she took a managerial position for GTE telephone company. She worked for GTE until July 1986 when she retired due to complications of multiple sclerosis.

In 1987 she moved to Brookhaven Community Estates.

She enjoyed sports, especially softball and volleyball; traveling; taking her nieces on trips; collection owls; latchhook; and macramé. She belonged to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn.

Survivors include her mother, Kathleen Sawyer of What Cheer; a brother, Alan (& Anita) Sawyer of Ollie, Iowa; a sister, Roseanne (& LaVerne) Kriegel, Brooklyn; four nieces, Susan, Sheila, Samantha, and Maria Kriegel; and two nephews, Josh and Adam Sawyer.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Sawyer; and a brother, Wayne Ronald Sawyer.
