ROBERT AND ETHEL HANNAY

A memorial service for Robert and Ethel Hannay will be held Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Christine Tinker, chaplain of the Mayflower Community, officiating. Pianist will be William Tinker. Inurnment will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Alzheimer's Association in care of Smith Funeral Home.

Robert Stagg Hannay was born Feb. 12, 1916, in Grinnell, the son of Robert and Delilah Stagg Hannay. He attended high school and college in Grinnell, leaving college in is senior year to enter the United States Navy after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He spent his entire military enlistment in the South Pacific.

Ethel May Hannay was born Oct. 15, 1918 in Mystic, Iowa, the daughter of Lora and Delia Irondale Sams.

They were united in marriage on Aug. 15, 1942, in Des Moines, subsequently settling in Ames following World War II where they raised their family, she as a homemaker who held a realtor's license and he in the advertising business. After retiring to South Carolina, they enjoyed restoring houses. Their last home was in Madison, Ind.

They are survived by four children, Patricia Marshall, Cheri Hannay, Roabin? Hersleder and Thomas Hannay. They were preceded in death by their parents, siblings and three children, Phyllis Kelly, Pamela Thompson and Robert Douglas Hannay.
