MRS. R.J. DAVIS.

Eleanor Mercer was born in Ohio, Nov. 3rd, 1835. April 12th, 1858 she was married to Mr. R.J. Davis in Princeton, Ill. They came to Iowa in 1871 and settled on a farm near Ontario, Iowa. After a few years' residence there they came to Grinnell, which has been their home for the past 25 years. Mr. Davis preceded her in death but a few months. Mrs. Davis had been a member of the Methodist Protestant church for many years. Recently her membership was transferred to the Methodist Episcopal church of this city, in which church, though not a member until of late, her Christian activity was marked.

Her religious profession was backed by an intensely active life of devoted service. The tribute they bear to her memory who knew her best, is that "She went about doing good." For two years she has been a constant suffered from bodily pain. She passed away Saturday night at 10:45. The funeral services were held in the Methodist Episcopal church, Monday afternoon at three o'clock, and were conducted by the pastor.
