GEORGE SHELLHART,
FORMER RESIDENT,
DIES IN ACCIDENT

George Shellhart, 27, Vinton, a former Grinnell resident, was fatally injured Wednesday morning in a one-car accident on Highway 74, three miles northwest of Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Clifford Kissinger, pastor of the First Baptist church of Vinton, officiating. Burial will be in Hazelwood cemetery.

The son of Clarence R. and Mabel Welcher Shellhart, Mr. Shellhart was born January 12, 1935, near St. Louis, Mo. He attended school at St. Louis and Wright City, Mo., and later was graduated from Monroe, Iowa, high school.

He moved to Grinnell with his parents and on February 7, 1954, was united in marriage with Edna Mae Fudge by the Rev. C.E. Kingsley at the First Baptist church in Grinnell.

To this union were born five children--Joyce Elaine, 7; Michael Alan, 6; Charles Roland, 4; Carol Lynn, 2; and Kathryn Sue, three months.

In addition to his widow Edna at the home in Vinton and five children, he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Shellhart of Etterville, Mo.; five sisters and two brothers--Mrs. Kenneth (Dorothy) Licklider of St. Johns, Mo.; Mrs. Clyde (Shirley) Bryson of Foristell, Mo.; Margaret Shellhart of Etterville, Mo.; James Shellhart of Florissant, Mo.; Jack Shellhart of the U.S. Navy; Mrs. Harold (Eileen) Marshall of Weldon, Iowa; and Mrs. Tom (Carolyn) Henley of Jefferson City, Mo.

He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fudge, of Perry, formerly of Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William A. Shellhart.

Mr. Shellhart was employed as a salesman for the Combined Insurance Company of America. When he resided in Grinnell, he was employed by several businesses.
