Funeral services for Elmer Dalbey, pioneer resident of Iowa, were conducted at 2 p.m. Apr. 5 at the Steffy Funeral Home by Rev. William Morehouse. Mrs. William Landstrum played the funeral music and accompanied Leslie Steele as he sang "Beyond the Sunset."

Interment was in the Barnes City cemetery. Casket bearers were Paul Konecny, Harold Lester, Henry Doonan, Carl Speas, Harold Sanders and Harold Riggs.

Elmer, son of Elizabeth and Aaron Dalbey, was born Nov. 21, 1866, at Bangar, Union county, Iowa, and died in Oskaloosa Apr. 2, at 97 years of age.

In his youth he moved with his parents to a farm south of Barnes City, were he attended rural school. He later attended Penn College Academy, when the school was held in a log cabin. He taught school for several years and later, was Dean of Oskaloosa College.

On Dec. 22, 1888, he was united in marriage with Ida Gerard. To this union four children were born. He was an ordained minister and served in several churches in Iowa. He was, also, interested in medicine.

He was a 50-year member of the Tennyson Lodge #530, AF & AM, of Barnes City and was an active member as long as his health permitted.

After the death of his wife in 1930, he lived in Barnes City until his health failed and he has been cared for in a nursing home.

He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Olive Hockey, Barnes City; two sons, John, Barnes City, and Charles, Sigourney; 13 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
