GEORGIA COLLITON

Georgia A. Colliton, a resident of Mayflower, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, at Mayflower Health Care Center.

A Mass of the Resurrection was held Wednesday, Dec. 27, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. William Reynolds, pastor of the church officiating. Music was by Marilyn Kriegel, organist, and the choir of St. Mary's Church. Casket bearers were her grandchildren, Rob and Katie Wood, Corey, Jennell and Natalie Mannion, Shannon, Patrick and Alex May and Helen and Bridget Colliton. Interment was in the Calvary section of Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made either to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Grinnell, or to Christ the King Catholic Church, Springfield, Ill. She was born April 22, 1920, in St. Paul, Minn., to John and Georgia Ingram Peck. After graduating from high school in St. Paul, she received the bachelor of arts degree in library science from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul. She was married in 1947 in St. Paul to Edward Colliton. The couple lived in St. Paul and Minneapolis prior to moving to Springfield, Ill., in 1962. She worked as a librarian at Springfield High School and at the Ursuline Academy. She and her husband moved to Mayflower in 2006.

She was a charter member of Christ the King Catholic Church, its Altar and Rosary Society and its Over 50 Club as well as of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed reading, needlework, walking, gardening and working in her church's library. She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Mollie Wood of Salt Lake city, Utah, Pat Mannion of Belleville, Wis., and Kathi May of Grinnell; one son, Jim Colliton of Plano, Texas, and ten grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Melanie May.
