FUNERAL SERVICES
FOR MRS. DOWLING
HELD WEDNESDAY

Wednesday morning at St. Mary's Catholic church, funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Julia Dowling who died Monday at the age of 88.

Celebrant of the solemn Requiem High Mass was the Rev. John W. Schmitz, nephew of the deceased, with the Rev. P.D. Moore, former pastor, as deacon and the Rev. Vincent A. Walsh, pastor, as sub-deacon. Acolytes were James Cunningham, Tom Comerford and Bill Comerford.

Singing the Mass music were Wilma Schmitz and Mrs. Wayne Dayton with Mrs. L.W. Brock as organist. Pallbearers were Paul Schmitz, Bernard Schmitz, Wm. Flanagan, Carleton Flanagan, Leo Flanagan and Paul Devereaux. Burial was in Sacred Heart cemetery at Newton.

OBITUARY

Mrs. Dowling was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., July 20, 1866, and passed away at the Lone Elm rest home, Grinnell, Aug. 23, 1954, at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 3 days.

On June 15, 1903, she was married to Thomas Dowling at St. Brendan's church in Searsboro. They made their home at Newton.

After Mr. Dowling's death on Sept. 15, 1937, Mrs. Dowling made her home with relatives in Grinnell until entering the rest home in 1943.

Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Anna Schmitz; two brothers, John Flanagan and Owen Flanagan, all of Grinnell; and a host of relatives and friends.

She was a devout Catholic all her life.
