JOYCE SIMPSON, 67

Joyce (Ver Meer) Simpson, 67, of Carlsbad, N.M., an Iowa native, died Sunday, March 17, in Albuquerque, N.M.

A memorial service was May 22 at First Presbyterian Church in Montezuma, with the Rev. Dr. George Salnave officiating. Memorials are to First Presbyterian or to the Epworth United Methodist Church music program. Watts Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Simpson was born Nov. 4, 1932, in Knoxville, to Arie and Violet (Heter) Jabaai. At age 8, she and her six-year-old brother went to live with Marie and Clarence Jabaai near Prairie City. She was educated in a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from high school in 1951.

She married Marvin C. Ver Meer of Pella and they ahd three children.

She later married Roy C. Koenig. They traveled extensively and lived in Yuma, Ariz., for four years before moving to Palmdale, Calif. Her husband later died, and she moved to Carlsbad.

In 1993, she married Glen Simpson, and they lived in Lakeview Christian Village in Carlsbad. She was a homemaker.

She enjoyed music and sang in several choirs. She became a certified ombudsman working in Yuma and Ruidoso, N.M.

Surviving are her husband, Glen Simpson; two daughters, Lois (& Wayne) Ake of Bosque Farms, N.M., and Laura (& Kevin) Griffith of Carlsbad; a son, Douglas (& Debra) Ver Meer of Montezuma; a sister, Phyllis Kline of Des Moines; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Don; and Marie and Clarence Jabaai.
