LUCIE MOXLEY MASON

Mrs. Lucie Mason was born March 25, 1872, and departed this life January 9, 1901, aged 28 years, 9 months and 14 days. Very early in life she gave her heart to her Saviour and lived a true christian life until the day of her death. She united with the M.E. church and remained a member there until after her marriage with T.S. Mason, December 12, 1895, when her letter was transferred to the United Brethren church, to which her husband belonged. According to God's Word in First Thess. 4:3, she saw it was His will--even her sanctification. Under the labors of Rev. J.G. Barton, in the Mt. Pleasant M.E. church on December 23, 1889, she saw it was her privilege as well as her duty to receive the blessing of the entire sanctification by consecration and faith subsequent to conversion.

After this the great wall of sectarianism seemed to be broken down with her and in whatever church she worshipped she was willing to work for the salvation of souls and help on the cause of Christ. Her christian work began in her own home, where her voice was heard in prayer every day around the family altar. After this her thoughts turned to her neighbors, friends and church, and for them her service was cheerfully given.

So many rumors are afloat in regard to her sickness and death, that we think it proper and right that the public now be told the facts of the case. She had a wonderful desire to win souls to Jesus. This she considered the most important of all things. She was most wonderfully burdened for her church and her neighbors. It seemed as though it would crush her life from her. She had pleaded with her friends and neighbors year after year to give themselves to Jesus. During the last revival meeting the burden (????) greater than she could bear. She took it to the Lord in prayer and hung on by faith for victory until her body gave way and reason was dethroned. She was willing to lay down her life for these people; her authority for so doing was found in First John 3:16.

On Saturday previous to her derangement her house was set in order, her burial robes prepared, text chosen, songs selected and pall-bearers named. Her bible, which was given her about ten years ago by Barrett friends and was prized so highly by her, was closed. She apparently died to all earthly interests on that day. She started for the church that night, which she never reached. When she entered her home again she lay in her casket.

Her pleadings are all in. Her prayers all offered. Her work is done.

Did I say her work was done? "Their works do follow them." It is thought she died of a broken heart. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

The funeral service was conducted at the U.B. church, three miles west of Newburg, Jan. 13, by her pastor, Rev. W.A. King, assisted by Rev. F.K. Witmer of Springdale. Text used, Rev. 14:13. She leaves a husband, two step-children, father, mother, two sisters, a brother and many loving friends to mourn her loss.
