ZELMA Y. MASON

Zelma Y. Mason, 91, of Grinnell died Friday, Dec. 10, at the Mayflower Health Care Center.

A graveside service was conducted Sunday afternoon at McFarland Cemetery, What Cheer, with the Rev. Michael Smith, pastor of the Grinnell First Presbyterian Church, officiating. The Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of Fred and Ellen Procter Mason, she was born March 7, 1908, in What Cheer. She was a 1925 graduate of What Cheer High School.

She later attended a business school in Oskaloosa. She moved to Washington, D.C., in the late 1920s and was employed by the Veterans Administration as an administrative assistant. She retired in the late 1960s and moved to the Mayflower here in 1998.

Three nieces survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Fred, Osman, Will and George Mason; and two sisters, Susan DeSpain and Ann Hamilton.
