HELEN M. WILLEMSEN (BEYER)

Helen M. (Beyer) Willemsen, the daughter of Geurt and Hattie (Verstegh) Beyer, was born August 18, 1919 in rural Taintor, Iowa.

On December 9, 1943, Helen was united in marriage to Henry G. Willemsen in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was a homemaker and in 1953, Helen and her family moved to Newton, Iowa. Helen enjoyed traveling in their motor home, their vacation home in the Lake of the Ozarks, but nothing compared to the enjoyment and the love she had for her five grandchildren and three grandchildren-in-law. She liked knitting, gardening, cooking and her jellies. Helen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton, Jasper County Farm Bureau, and the Chat-A-Bit Club.

On Sunday, September 17, 2000, Helen died at the Park Centre Care Center in Newton at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Rich, Melvin, Dale, and Glen Beyer.

Those left to honor her memory are her husband, Henry; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Dona Willemsen of Elkhart, Iowa and Jim and Anne Willemsen of Newton; her five grandchildren, Peter Willemsen and his wife, Renee; Matthew Willemsen and his wife, Renee; Karen Renee Warner and her husband, Corey; Brad Willemsen and Emily Willemsen; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Les Beyer of Montezuma, Iowa and Earl and Jerry Beyer of Grinnell, Iowa; her sister, Margaret Sparks of Newton; and her many nieces and nephews.
