JOHN MCINTOSH

John McIntosh, 74, of Grinnell died Sunday, Oct. 21, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the United Church of Christ-Congregational, with the Rev. Keith Briggs, pastor of the First Friends Church, officiating. Music was provided by organist Alice Renaud, pianist Clara Denny and vocalist Marvin Kelley. Pallbearers were Michael Evans; Peter Tyler and Craig McIntosh and Ronald and Gary Parkin.

Masonic rites were conducted Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with Madison Tomfeld as officiant.

Graveside rites were Wednesday afternoon at Fairview Cemetery in Earlville, with the Rev. Eldon Jandebeur officiating.

The son of John and Louise Mangold McIntosh, he was born Aug. 21, 1916, in Manchester. He was a graduate of Manchester High School.

In 1934, he joined Central Iowa Telephone Co. as a lineman, later working as a cable splicer, maintenance man and exchange manager at several locations.

He later served as a division manager when the company was operated in two divisions. In 1951, he became general manager and was named vice president of revenue requirements for General Telephone Co.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational and had served as chairman of the board of trustees of the Manchester Congregational Church. He was also a member of the Manchester Rotary Club, the Grinnell Kiwanis Club, the Grinnell Country Club and the Masonic Lodge. He was a past president of the Iowa Telephone Association.

Mr. McIntosh is survived by his wife, Geraldine (Parkin); his children, Sharon Schermerhorn of Okeechobee, Fla., David of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Stephen of Palmdale, Calif.; six grandchildren; and three brothers, Raymond of Kansas City, Mo., Robert of Oelwein and Roger of Manchester.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Allan.

The obituary for John McIntosh, 74, of Grinnell, which appeared in the Oct. 25 edition of The Herald-Register, inadvertently omitted the name of the principal officiant, the Rev. David Bowman, pastor of the United Church of Christ-Congregational.
