THOMAS HAIGH

Thomas Walter "Tom" Haigh, 71, of Oskaloosa, formerly of Grinnell, died Saturday, Sept. 2, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

The body was cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. The Garland-Van Arkel Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

The son of Percy C. and Leila Bratton Haigh, he was born March 7, 1929, in Des Moines. He was a 1947 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Des Moines.

He was married to Vernice V. Robison Dec. 24, 1948, in Des Moines. Mr. Haigh enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was discharged in 1953.

Mr. Haigh then moved to Oskaloosa and was credit manager of the Sherwin-Williams Paint Store. In 1955, he moved to Grand Rapids, Mich., where he was assistant manager and credit manager for Sherwin-Williams. He returned to Oskaloosa in 1959, and in 1976 he moved to Grinnell where he and his wife owned and operated Village Decorating. He retired in 1983 and returned to Oskaloosa in 1988.

He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, a former member of the Oskaloosa Chamber of Commerce and a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Robin Wan Wyk of Oskaloosa; one son, Scott of Henderson, Nev.; two grandchildren; one step-grandson; and three sisters, Shirley Thomas of Davenport, Jean Knudsen of Dallas Center and Tamzon Melos of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to his church, the Kidney Foundation or the American Lung Association.
