DIES SUDDENLY AT
NEWTON THIS MORN

Alfred (Al) W. Norman of 711 Pearl Street, Grinnell, passed away suddenly about 9 a.m. this morning at work following a brief illness at Maytag Plant No. 2, in Newton.

He was born in Grinnell, October 30, 1904, the son of Enos Aaron and Mable Heacock Norman. As a boy he lived in the Chester area where he attended the local school. Later the family moved back to Grinnell and he attended the Grinnell public schools and he was a member of the First Friends church.

On June 2, 1935, he was united in marriage with Doris Bruvold, at Mystic, Iowa, by his wife's father, the Rev. J.C. Bruvold. To this union were born 2 children: Mrs. Sandra Terrell of Iowa City, and Dennis Norman of Grinnell.

In addition to his wife Doris at home in Grinnell, and his 2 children, Mr. Norman is survived by 2 grandchildren: Brent Walter Terrell and Lora Lynn Terrell. He also leaves 1 brother and 1 sister: Ollie Norman of Des Moines, and Mrs. Luella Cummings of Covina, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Norman had lived in the Grinnell area all of his life except for a period of time which he served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Grinnell Elks Lodge. At the time of his death, he had been working for the Maytag Company in Newton as assembly-man at Plant No. 2.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home with the Dr. G.S. Bruland, minister of the Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in Hazelwood cemetery. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.
