MARVIN "POPS" SOLEM

Funeral Services for Marvin "Pops" Solem, of Brooklyn, was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 1, 1987, in the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Mr. Solem died Thursday, May 28, 1987, in the Brookhaven Nursing Home, Brooklyn.

Rev. Fr. Karl Holtkamp, pastor of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn, officiated. The organist was Mrs. Marilyn Kriegel. Flower attendants were Mrs. Janice Eggert and Mr. and Mrs. Stan Ochs. Casket-bearers were G.J. Manatt, John McKusker, Ken Ellis, Tom Hollopeter, Tom Eggert, and Denny Cram. Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery, Brooklyn.

Marvin Leonard Solem, son of Ole and Augusta Johnson Solem, was born October 1, 1907, in Hadley, Minnesota, and died Thursday, May 28, 1987, in the Brookhaven Nursing Home, Brooklyn, having attained the age of 79 years, 7 months, and 27 days.

He grew up at Hadley and attended Hadley Public School. Marvin served in the US Army during WWII and served in the Pacific Theater as a member of the 43rd Engineers. For many years Marvin worked road construction for Iowa Road Builders and Manatts for whom he worked until his retirement.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Arp Morden on August 27, 1945, in Cedar Rapids. They were the parents of one son, Dennis "Skip" Solem. They moved to Brooklyn in 1960.

Marvin is survived by his son, Skip, and his wife, Ruth, of Brooklyn; three grandsons, Travis, Lukas, and Jakob, all of Brooklyn; one brother, Lester Solem of Haley, MN; and one sister, Margaret, Mrs. Victor Severeid of Lake Wilson, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; one sister, Gladys, Mrs. Oscar Benson; and two brothers, Arden and Harris Solem.
