Oct. 22, 1970GEORGE SIMPSON RITES HELD HERE MONDAY
Services for George Simpson were conducted by the Rev. Martin Gruneich at 2 p.m. Monday, October 19, in the Steffy Funeral Home. Music at the rites was provided by soloist Darrell Brand accompanied by organist Miss Alice Underwood.
Casket bearers were Mack Purdum, Duane Purdum, Bobby Joe Simpson, Larry Simpson, Jimmy Simpson and Chester Simpson Jr. Burial was at Jackson Township Cemetery.
Mr. Simpson, 72, died Saturday, October 17, in University Hospital at Iowa city.
The son of Sarah and William Simpson, he was born in Scott Township, Poweshiek County, on Dec. 4, 1897.
In his youth he attended country school Jackson No. 11 and helped with the farm work.
On May 24, 1919, he was united in marriage with Alice Morrow. To this union five children were born. They lived in the Montezuma community where they farmed. In 1935 they moved to Montezuma where he was employed by the County for 26 years.
Mr. Simpson is survived by his wife; four sons, Chester, Lloyd, Claire and Robert; a daughter, Helen Willer; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers; and four sisters.
