Dorothy June (Walsh) Hurd, 85, died Fri., Jan. 16, 2004, at the English Valley Care Center in North English, following a brief illness.

She was born on June 23, 1918, near Montezuma, the daughter of Edward and Verlie Tolles Walsh. She graduated from Montezuma High School. She worked various jobs in the area before moving to Chicago, Ill. to find work. She was united in marriage to Lambert M. Hurd on Oct. 2, 1946, in Chicago. They moved to the family farm near Keswick to live and farm. She worked two years at Sheller-Globe in Iowa City. She began working at the Amana Colonies Holiday Inn when it opened in October 1971 and retired in December 1984, as Executive Housekeeper. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English. She was involved in school organizations when her sons were attending Deep River-Millersburg Schools and was in numerous church activities. She enjoyed dancing and was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzle solving. She became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in North English in Nov. 1994.

She is survived by two sons, Daniel and Lawrence; two brothers, Edward Walsh and Ralph Walsh; a sister, Janice Jones; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Irvin and Virgil Walsh; and three sisters, Opal Elam, Verbal Conn and Macel Gilchrist.

Funeral services were held Mon., Jan. 19, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English with the Rev. David Hitch officiating. Burial was in the Armah Cemetery near North English.
