BURIAL SERVICES
ARE HELD HERE FOR
MISS EDITH BUCK

Brief burial services were held in Hazelwood cemetery Friday morning over the ashes of Miss Edith Buck, who died a few days ago in California. They were conducted by her classmate, Dr. George E. White, of the college cyclone class of 1882.

Miss Buck was the daughter of Professor S.J. Buck, one of the prominent figures in the early life of Grinnell college and for many years a member of the faculty. The family is one of the oldest in Grinnell's history, and had an important part in the building of both town and college. Much of the early surveying in Grinnell was done by Professor Buck, who also served the college for a time as its president.

It might be recalled in this connection that Professor Buck was an ordained minister and was the founder and first pastor of the church in Chester of which Rev. George H. White, father of Dr. George E. White of this city, was later pastor for many years.

Miss Buck had been for many years a teacher of mathematics in the high school at Long Beach, Calif.

Miss Buck is survived by her brothers, Dr. S.C. Buck, who formerly practiced in Grinnell and is now located in California, and Irving J. Buck of St. Louis.
