NORMA WILSON

Norma Y. Wilson, 80, of Grinnell died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service was held Saturday, March 12, at 1:30 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, with Dan VerWeert, interim pastor of the Assembly of God, officiating. Pianist was Betty Ann Battey. Private family interment took place at Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the landscaping fund at Hazelwood Cemetery or to Grinnell Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.

She was born Nov. 26, 1924, on the family farm near Brooklyn to John and Della Smith Patten. She was a graduate of Brooklyn High School with the class of 1942, then taught in a rural school near Montezuma. On Aug. 11, 1944, she was married to Frank Farrell in Cedar Rapids. They lived in Cedar Rapids and Davenport and later were divorced after which she moved to Grinnell. She was married on March 27, 1955, to Carmen (Cocky) Wilson in Omaha, Neb. They resided in Kellogg and Grinnell. She was occupied as a wife and mother and also was employed at businesses in Kellogg and Grinnell.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Grinnell Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and enjoyed needlework, crafts and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by four sons, Frank Farrell of Winchester, Calif., Bill Farrell of Grinnell, Jack Wilson of Riverside, Calif., and Rod Wilson of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; seven sisters, Doraldine Edstrom of Omaha, Neb., Anna Belle Robison of Cedar Falls, Donna Collum of DeWitt, Patricia Clark of Kellogg, Nancy Ogden of Texas and Lila McCammant and Linda Patten of Grinnell, and three brothers, Wayne Patten and Jim Patten of Brooklyn and Ed Patten of Lebanon, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one son, Joe Farrell.
