MRS. JAMES EWART
FUNERAL SUNDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. James Ewart were held from the home on south East street Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Robert Inglis. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends to mourn the passing of a devoted wife and mother. The music was in charge of Mrs. Edwin Parish. Pall bearers were J.S. Copeland, David Agnew, George Morrison, Harry Latcham, William Cleland and Edwin Parish. Burial was in the Ewart mausoleum in the cemetery at Ewart.

Mrs. Ewart died at 2:55 a.m. April 27, 1934. She had been in failing health for more than two years, her last illness covering a period of several weeks. Her sister, Mrs. Tom Broughton of Detroit was with her during this time and with other relatives from out of town, was here for the funeral.

Henrietta Aldis was Mrs. Ewart's maiden name. She was the daughter of Salem and Victoria Aldis, and was born in Chatham, Ontario, Canada, May 22, 1884. She first came to Poweshiek county in the year 1900 to visit at the home of her sister, Mrs. Tom Ewart of Ewart. Soon after her coming to Iowa, the Ewart brothers, Tom and Jim, went to Chicago where they engaged in the commission business, and it was while living in Chicago, September 25, 1901, that she and Mr. Ewart were married.

In 1904 they returned to the old farm at Ewart, Iowa, where they resided until 1917 when they came to Grinnell and purchased the lovely home at the corner of Sixth Ave. and Broad street where Dr. and Mrs. Brooker now reside. After five or six years in Grinnell however, they went back to the farm for a time, returning again to make their home here in 1928.

The four children of Mr. and Mrs. Ewart were all born in Poweshiek county and all survive their mother. They are Lyle, Dauphin, James and Betty. Lyle and his wife have one little daughter, Patricia Ann, the only grandchild. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Ewart will reside at the home and the family circle will not be broken except for the loss of the mother.

Among the out of town relatives attending the funeral services were: Mrs. Tom Broughton of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Ralph Wixtrum of Chicago, both sisters of the deceased; Maurine Knowles, Durant Ewart, and Merle Ewart, all of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rayburn and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Rayburn of Oskaloosa and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Wolcott of Sheridan.
