SYLVIA VAN WECHEL

Sylvia J. Van Wechel, 84, of Grinnell died of cancer Friday, March 1, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, in the Social Center of the Mayflower, with the Rev. Robert Molsberry, pastor of the Grinnell United Church of Christ-Congregational, officiating. Pianist will be Norman Goodbrod. Burial will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Grinnell or the United Church of Christ-Congregational.

The daughter of John and Clara Muilenburg Boeyink, she was born March 23 1911, in Sioux Center and graduated from Sioux Center High School. She received a teaching certificate and taught rural school east of Sioux Center.

On June17, 1932, she was married to Clarence Van Wechel in Nebraska. They lived in Orange City until 1941, then moved to Vinton. From 1945 to 1959 they operated Van Wechel Motor Co. in Manchester, and from 1959 to 1972 they operated Van Wechel Motor co. in Grinnell with his brother, Melvin. Following their retirement, the couple spent winters in McAllen, Texas, and summer months near Deer River, Minn. They moved to the Mayflower in 1995.

Mrs. Van Wechel was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational and was a deaconess of the church. She was also a member of PEO in McAllen and Grinnell.

She is survived by her husband. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Adelaide Jurriaans? and Dorothy Happel; and one brother, Henry Boeyink.
