SYLVIA M. WALINE

Sylvia M. Waline, 62 of Brooklyn, died Oct. 6, at Grinnell Hospice Center. Funeral Services were Oct. 10, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Deep River with Pastor Paul Nus officiating. Burial in Guernsey Cemetery.

She married Marvin Waline May 23, 1970 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Besides being a wife, mother, and homemaker, Sylvia worked for General Telephone in Grinnell for 7 years.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Marvin; two daughters, Kathy Langreck and husband Dustin of Blairstown, and Jane Waline of Victor; a granddaughter, Emily Waline; two brothers, Melvin Ranfeld and wife Mary of Deep River, and Randy Ranfeld and wife Mary of Montezuma; two sisters, Inez Scott and husband Don of Brooklyn, and Merna Duffus and husband Doug of Grinnell; and a sister-in-law, Donna (Ranfeld) Ratcliff and husband Glenn of Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Harvey Johnston, and Larry Ranfeld, and a sister-in-law, Mabel Johnston.

Sylvia Mae Ranfeld was born Oct. 20, 1949 in Deep River, the daughter of Mern Ranfeld and Clara Schlesselman. She began her education in the Poweshiek country schools and then attended the Montezuma school, graduating in 1967.

Sylvia was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Deep River. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, and creating various custom crafts and selling them on eBay all over the country. But she especially enjoyed spending time with her family and her granddaughter.
