EUGENE LOWELL REISETTER

Eugene Lowell Reisetter, 92, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at the Mayflower Community.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m. at Boeke Funeral Home in Radcliffe. Visitation prior to the funeral will begin at noon. Burial will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery, rural Radcliffe.

A memorial service will be held at the Carman Center at Mayflower on Thursday, Sept. 23, at 3 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Mayflower Community or the charity of the giver's choice.

He was born July 20, 1918, near Radcliffe to Archie Bayard and Percy Bergeson Reisetter, the eldest of six children. He worked on his family's farm during the great depression and was a 1936 graduate of Ellsworth High School.

He was united in marriage with Lois Sylvia Reed of Radcliffe on July 8, 1940. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1943, serving in the infantry in Germany, and received the Purple Heart as a result of wounds and a concussion from a tank explosion.

After his discharge from the Army, he and his wife farmed near Radcliffe. He then decided to take advantage of the G.I. Bill, and he and his wife and family moved to a small farm near Ames while he graduated from Iowa State University. He worked for the U.S. Agricultural Extension Service in Oskaloosa from 1955 until 1968, then returned to Iowa State University where he earned his master's degree in 1972. He then worked for the United States Postal Service in Ames, retiring in 1983. He and his wife moved to the Mayflower Community in 2006.

He is survived by Lois, his wife of 70 years; three daughters Jeananne Schild of Grinnell and Patricia Leith and Jan Conard, both of Salt Lake City, Utah; five granddaughters and nine great grandchildren.
