RUTH E. EWART

Ruth E. Ewart, 86, formerly of Sun City, Georgetown, Texas, and Fairfield, Iowa, died Thursday, May 27, 2004, in Austin, Texas.

A funeral service will be held Friday, June 4, at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield with the Rev. Jan Burns-Hintze officiating. Graveside rites will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Ewart Cemetery in Pleasant Township south of Grinnell. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ruth E. Ewart to the Grinnell College Office of Development, 733 Broad St., Grinnell. Behner Funeral Home and Crematory in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.

She was born July 9, 1917, in Miles City, Mont., the daughter of Harry and Eleanor Dunlap Empting. She was a 1939 graduate of Grinnell College. She was dean of women at the former Parsons College in Fairfield where she also served on the Fairfield City Council. She later had her own personnel consulting business. She was married to Dauphin Ewart. She was active in the Austin chapter of P.E.O., the Grinnell College Alumni Association and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Georgetown, Texas.

She is survived by one son, Ned Ewart of Austin and one daughter, Susan Wilson of Portsmouth, Va.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
