CHARLES FOSTER

Charles (Robert) Foster, 81, of rural Tama died of a heart attack at his home Saturday, Feb. 13.

No memorial services are planned. The body was cremated, and burial of the cremains will take place at a later date at Maple Hill Cemetery in Tama.

The son of Charles L. and Ruby Brown Foster, he was born Aug. 23, 1917, in Grinnell. He attended rural school and also attended Chester High School in Chester Township.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the African, Middle East and European theaters during world War II. He was decorated with one Silver Battle Star and one Bronze Star.

He was married to Peggy Joyce Emery May 2, 1948. He farmed in Sheridan Township until his retirement in 1991. Mr. Foster was a member of the Tama-American Legion and a 50-year member of the Farm Bureau.

Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Linda Schulz of Chino Hills, Calif., and Jane, Joyce and Jill Foster, all of Tama; two sons, Robert of Tama and Jeff of Gilman; one sister, Ruth Puls of Grinnell; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Mark and Leslie; and an infant sister.
