MRS. VIOLET JONES

Mrs. Violet Jones, 84, of Brooklyn, died Saturday night, Dec. 12, in Brookhaven Nursing Home, Brooklyn.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jones were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15 in the Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn. Rev. Kalen K. Fristad officiated. The organist was Mrs. Carol McClenathan and the soloist was Mrs. Connie Byers. Special selections were "Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art." Flower attendants were Mrs. Nancy Roudabush and Mrs. Roberta Hand.

Casket bearers were John Reimers, James Moyer, Roger Rudabush, Terry Johnson, Jim Johnson, and Calvin Roudabush. Interment was in the Brooklyn Cemetery. The Nevenhoven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Violet Charlotte Johnson Jones, daughter of Nels and Annie Lytle Johnson, was born June 30, 1908, in Chicago. The family moved to Brooklyn where Mrs. Jones received her education graduating from high school in 1926. She was a graduate of AIB of Des Moines and held a teaching certificate. Later she did substitute teaching. On March 15, 1933, she was united in marriage to Charles Clifton Jones in Rock Island, Ill.

Mrs. Jones was a member of the grace united Methodist Church, UMW, and taught Sunday school. She was a 50-year member of the Rebekah Lodge, and "Past Noble Grand," Madison Homemakers Club, and Grange. For many years she was active in the Democratic Party and served as co-chairman of the Poweshiek County Democratic Central Committee.

Surviving are her husband, Charles; two sons, Richard of Brooklyn, Paul, and his wife, Doris, of Brooklyn; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Thomas Johnson.
