MRS. VIOLET ROOP

Mrs. Violet Roop, daughter of Thomas and Carrie Wright was born June 15, 1894 at Livonia, Missouri, and departed this life, after several weeks of illness, on November 8, 1954 at Iowa City, at the age of 60 years, 4 months and 24 days.

She spent her childhood and grew to womanhood near Livonia, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Fred Roop on October 6, 1909 at Lancaster, Missouri and to this union three children were born.

The following year they moved to a farm near Malcom, Iowa and continued to reside in Poweshiek County until moving to Grinnell in 1912, where she lived until her death.

Upon coming to Grinnell, she, with her husband, joined the Christian Church. They became charter members of the Calvary Baptist Church of Grinnell, Iowa. Her christian faith was evidenced by her unselfish devotion for her family and others.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Dessie) Ent of Latimer, Iowa, and Mrs. George (Lucille) Renaud of Grinnell; and three grandchildren, James, Katie Mae, and Danny Lee. One son, Thomas Ernest and one grand child died in infancy. She also is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Carl Crooks, Van Wert, Ohio; Mrs. David Shadden, Tama, Iowa; Mrs. Isaac Howard, Grinnell; two brothers, Von Wright, Columbia, Missouri; Vursel Wright of Grinnell; one great aunt, Mrs. Anna Losey, Grinnell; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Her mother and father and three sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from James Funeral Home with Rev. Isaac Johnson and Rev. J. Lester Williams officiating. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.
