FUNERAL SERVICES
HELD TODAY FOR
ARTHUR LANDES, 86

Arthur H. Landes, 86, of 1030 Elm Street, died early Friday morning at an Iowa City hospital where he had been a patient the past six weeks.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy A. Coop, minister of the Christian church, officiating. Vocal music was by Mrs. Roy Coop, accompanied by Norman Goodbrod at the organ.

Pallbearers were Donald Phipps, Glen Phipps, Hollis Phipps, John Phipps, Richard Phipps Shaw and Raymond Phipps. Burial was in Rock Creek cemetery west of Grinnell.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Madison Landes and was born in Kentucky on Dec. 28th, 1879. Mr. Landes farmed for many years in the Rock Creek community in Jasper county.

On Sept. 5th, 1918, he was married to Edna Alice Phipps at Kirksville, Mo. She preceded him in death in 1959. After his wife's death Mr. Landes retired from farming and became well known on the Grinnell College campus by attending classes in several departments the past seven years. He also had attended classes at Coe College in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include a niece Mrs. Maun Beebe of Kansas City, Mo., and several nieces and nephews of Mrs. Landes, all living in this area.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Henry, William and Elmer Landes; and one sister, Lydia Anne Landes.
