ANDREW MCGINLEY MCANINCH

Andrew McGinley McAninch, son of James Lewis and Phoebe Jane McAninch, was born at Atena Green (Etna Green), Ind., Jan. 25, 1864. His parents moved to Ohio when he was an infant, and when he was five years old he came with his family to Brooklyn, Ia., in a covered wagon, where he made his home ever since in Poweshiek County. March 4, 1886, he married Margaret E. McGee of Brooklyn, Ia. Two children were born to the couple. His wife died in 1888.

On Aug. 17, 1889, he married Sarah D. Billick of Brooklyn, and five children were born to the couple. His entire life was spent in and around Brooklyn as a farmer and blacksmith, spending 50 years in the latter occupation. Mr. and Mrs. McAninch celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last August. He suffered a stroke two years ago and since then had been confined to his home. He had been bedfast for a short time previous to his death, which occurred early Tuesday morning, Jan. 9, at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 14 days.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Viola Smith of Belle Plaine and Mrs. Nellie Kann of Cedar Rapids; one son, Elmer, of Colfax; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, C.O. McAninch of Victor; and several nieces and nephews and other relatives. His parents, three daughters, one son, one grandson, eight brothers and five sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at Grace Methodist church in Brooklyn, Thursday, Jan. 11, 1951, at two o'clock. Brief services were held at the house at 4:30. The Rev. M.O. McKenzie had charge of the services. Interment was in I.O.O.F. cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Laurence Smith, Wallace Kann, Melvin Kann, Keith Haugenbury, Delbert Bradley and Paul Hamor.
