CLARENCE A. HAMOR

Clarence A. Hamor was born in Downington, Pa., May 16, 1834. He was left an orphan in early life, and learned to be industrious and self-reliant. He learned the business of marble cutting near Philadelphia, but came to Scott county, Iowa, in 1858. He was married to Miss Calista Goodrich near Mifflin, Wis., at the age of thirty-one.

He became a citizen of this county in 1866, near Malcom, but gave up active farm life when he was fifty-five.

After a year or so in California he made Grinnell home till 1898, when he moved to his farm a mile east of the fair grounds, remaining there until his death on the 19th inst.

Of his six children three daughters, Mrs. Charles Ford, Mrs. J.F. Rivers, and Mrs. William Spooner, survive him, as does his wife.

One of his ancestors is said to have come to America with William Penn, and an attachment to the Friends was characteristic of his ancestry as also of himself.

A quiet, reserved man, whose industry was rewarded with competence, and whose integrity won the confidence of all who knew him has fallen by the way. His neighbors and his family have lost one whom they loved and honored--a good friend.
