STEWART J. MCILRATH

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 6, at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in Brooklyn, for Stewart J. McIlrath, 91, of Brooklyn, who died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at the Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn. The Rev. David Rogula officiated.

The organist was Marilyn Kriegel and the soloist, Terry Osborne. A special selection was "Danny Boy," and congregational hymns were "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art." Casket bearers were Archie Kuntz, C.J. Kuntz, Stewart McIlrath Jr., Thomas McIlrath, and David McIlrath. Honorary bearers were "Stewart's girls" from Brookhaven. Interment followed in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.

Stewart John McIlrath, son of James Cameron McIlrath and Rose Given McIlrath, was born Oct. 24, 1908, on a farm near Brooklyn. He received his education in Brooklyn, graduating in 1927.

He was a machinist working for many years at International Harvester in Illinois. American Machinery in Oak Lawn, Ill. last employed him. Following his retirement he moved to Brooklyn. He lived with his brother, Leffert, for a while and later at Brooklyn Senior Citizen Housing. In recent years Stewart was a resident of Brookhaven Nursing Home.

Stewart enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading westerns, and spending time with C.J. and Karen Kuntz.

Three brothers, Leffert, Francis and Ross, and a granddaughter, Michele McIlrath, preceded him in death.

Surviving Stewart are two sons and their wives, Stewart Jr. and Sandra of Aurora, Ill., and Thomas and Karen of Manitowoc, Wis.; two grandsons, Scott and David McIlrath; two great-grandsons, Jordan and Sydney McIlrath; and his close friends, Archie and Edie Kuntz, C.J. and Karen, of Brooklyn.
