J.S. WILSON

We buried John S. Wilson on Sunday afternoon,--a fine, strong, upstanding man in his day. And a long and useful day it was. He lived out three score years and ten with a few more years for good measure and every year was worth living. He has done his full part in every time of public need, and always--day in and day out--has furnished a shining example of what a genuine, big-hearted man may be at his best, as a father, as a friend and as a citizen.

John Stewart Wilson was born Jan. 3, 1844, at Sparta, Ill., and died in Grinnell, Ia., April 5, 1917. At the age of two years he moved with his parents to Grant county, Wisconsin, where he lived till grown to young manhood. He then moved to Illinois, where he farmed and worked at his trade. In 1892 he moved to Grinnell and has lived here since that time with the exception of three years spent in Mason City.

In 1863 he was married to Mary Gee. To them was born one daughter, Maggie B., who died July 1, 1909. After the death of the first wife, Mr. Wilson was united in marriage to Edna E. Scott. Three children were born to them--Alvin D., who died in infancy, Evelyn E., and Lawrence O. Besides the wife and two children, there survive three sisters and two brothers to mourn his loss.

To know Mr. Wilson well was to have for him a warm liking and a great respect. His honesty and integrity were unquestioned and unquestionable in this community. Never more truly has it been said of any man that his word was as good as his bond.

The funeral services were held at the home on Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. J.M. Brown. The pallbearers were R.G. Coutts, Will Corrough, John Goodfellow, G.O Watland, W.R. Warburton and Alex Fraser. Interment at Hazelwood.
