ALEX. H. SMITH
DIES IN MONTEZUMA

Alexander Hall Smith, son of Solomon and Lethinda Smith, was born July 26, 1847, at Malta, Ohio, and departed this life at Montezuma, Iowa, December 24, 1929, aged 82 years, 4 months and 28 days.

At twenty years of age he came to Iowa and found employment at Montezuma, where he has resided for sixty-two years, fifty-five years of which time have been spent on the same farm two and one-half miles east of town.

On April 2, 1874, he was married to Elizabeth Searight, who still survives him. To this union five children were born, Hattie L. Farmer, who passed away in 1915; John H. Smith of Montezuma; Mary E. Johnston, who passed away in 1928; Fred A. Smith of State Center, Iowa, and Kathryn Thorm of Montezuma. There are also four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted from the Christian church of which he had long been a member and staunch worker, Thursday afternoon, by the Rev. Milton E. Nethercut, pastor of the M.E. church.--Montezuma Republican.
