WILLIAM STARRY

William Joseph Starry, son of Joseph and Mary Starry, was born August 23, 1895, at Williamsburg. The family moved to a farm in Adams county where they established a home. He was inducted into the armed forces of World War I on July 21, 1918, and received his discharge January 20, 1919.

He was married October 22, 1924, to Carrie Eirp, daughter of John and Ella Eirp. The couple moved to a farm near Hartwick.

On October 5 of this year he entered St. Luke's hospital at Cedar Rapids and on October 23 was transferred to Veterans hospital in Iowa City where he died November 26 at the age of 69.

Mr. Starry was a member of the Z.C.B.J. Lodge of Chelsea and of the Jennings Bradshaw Legion Post of Belle Plaine.

He is survived by his widow, Carrie, of Brooklyn; four sisters, Mrs. Emma Kralik of Santee, S.C., Mrs. Charles (Bessie) Kohl of Des Moines, Mrs. J.F. (Florence) Scanlan of Prescott and Gladys Starry of Creston; and one brother, Ralph Starry of Creston.

His parents and a brother, Clarence, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine Saturday, Nov. 28, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Cutbirth, pastor of the Hartwick Congregational Church, officiating. Mrs. Ed Bartachek was organist.

Graveside military services were held at the Oak Hill cemetery at Belle Plaine. Serving as pallbearers were Louis Wauters, Louis Kaplan, Milton Cronbaugh, Marvin Benesh, Vernard Block and Garlan Block.
